Invited Speaker Series - Cody Koeninger: Fundamentals of Spark and Kafka

Hey folks, we hope you are doing well. We want to announce our next speaker Cody Koeninger. Cody is very versed in Spark and Kafka, and his talk is an excellent follow-on to Tim's earlier presentation on streaming. We are very excited and looking forward to his presentation because his material directly relates to many problems data scientists are currently grappling with in Big Data!

Cody Koeninger is a senior software engineer at Kixer in Austin, TX. He's been using and contributing to Spark since version 0.8, including authoring the KafkaRDD and Direct Streaming integrations. As an early production adopter of Scala, he's also the co-organizer of the Austin Scala Enthusiasts meetup.

Abstract

For beginners, we'll cover the fundamental concepts that will help you smoothly go from installation to solving problems. For experienced practitioners, we'll discuss the changes in the landscape for the upcoming Spark 2.0 and Kafka 0.10 releases. Extensive Q&A is welcome.
