LAW INFO: BIZ CHECKUP

This discussion is designed for businesses that have existed for 3-5 years or more. At formation time, some business founders start with legal advice, some do it themselves, some purchase forms from the web, and others learn in the thick of it.

Documents usually aren't reviewed again until there's a problem. At that point it can be an expensive problem. We think it's helpful if businesses review (or audit) the state of business organization affairs every 3 to 5 years. Some areas for discussion:
--Do the formation documents reflect business today?
--Are we adequately insured?
--Are risks managed?
--Are policies up to date?
--Have our values changed?
--Have we ignored any legal questions?
--Have we noticed liabilities arise, and can we develop best practices for dealing with them?
--Do we have threads of customer or employee needs or concerns that the business can deal with differently?
--Have we thought through a succession plan?
--What is the long run vision from where we sit in our business today?
