LAW INFO: NONPROFIT CHECKUP
Details
This meeting is designed for nonprofit and tax exempt organizations that have existed for 3-5 years or more. The IRS recommends bylaws and policies be reviewed around this time frame and with recurring frequency. We find that many organizations miss this or don't understand its value. Some areas for discussion:
--Have you built a board that serves the organization?
--How are you using committees? Young professionals?
--Is the fundraising strategy working? Does it raise any legal questions?
--Best practices concerning volunteers
--990s: Up to date? Strategic or useful disclosures? Allowable redactions?
--Public Support Test
--Unrelated Business Income
--Has the organization ignored any legal questions?
--Has the mission or vision changes?
--Have the organization discovered any jeopardizing activities?
--Is the organization watching out for theft/fraud by insiders?
--How is the organization documenting meetings, votes, decisions, and conflicts of interest?
--Has the organization entered into any contracts? Does the organization fully understand the terms? Risks?
--Is the organization properly insured?
--Would the organization benefit from compliance trainings?
Please join us at 8:15 am for coffee and continental breakfast. The discussion will begin at 8:30 with a hard stop at 9:30.
Group size is limited to 8 members so that the conversations will be meaningful. You are welcome to bring questions, but you do not have to have a question to participate.
The $7 ticket fee covers parking, breakfast and gratuity (for our server). You can purchase your ticket here: http://ow.ly/TbI1g It will be good fortune to meet you!
