Real Experiences with Storm

Formerly known as AHUG (http://austinhug.blogspot.com/), this will be the third meetup organized from our new home on meetup.com.

This meetup will be all about real experiences writing software using Storm (http://storm-project.net/). Though currently billed as the "new shiny" by many in the big-data space, these presentations will go into detail on what it's like to actually write code using Storm. Like any distributed system, the devil is in the details and operationalization can lead to a lot of surprises - even with substantial planning.

Both presentations are by Austin locals, so come on by and support your local tech scene.

Food, drinks will be provided. The event will be @ the (NEW!) Infochimps offices. Bring a camp chair.

***We are looking for sponsors - Please contact us directly if you are interested ***

Did the slides for Flip's talk get published anywhere?

Flip, thanks for the inspiration. I built a Node.js library for the XOR ack scheme as a result, cheers!

Great talks. Any chance of getting Flips slides online? Also, is there an ETA on the videos being online? I'm mainly interested in reviewing the Trident material while it's still semi-fresh in my head.

    Thanks!

I'm glad I came to this meetup instead of OpenStack. Great presentations!

I really need to learn more about Docker, so the OpenStack meetup wins this time. I hope to make it next time.

To be honest, it's really hard to not overlap with something in this town

This is true - and we are fortunate to have such an active tech scene. However, we do try to minimize overlap when we know that several members actively participate in both groups. Ftr - I would have liked to see the open stack preso on containers as well :(

This is opposite the OpenStack meetup, so I'll have to decide which to attend.

Yeah - unfortunately, we noticed that after the fact. We'll make sure to schedule these a little better going forward given that there is a substantial amount of overlap.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
