Affirm your IV Amendment Rights and Rebuke Politics as Usual

A former member
We have a chance to criminalize abusive bodily searches by public servants (TSA, DPS, etc.) here in Texas by contacting the House State Affairs Committee and demanding it pass HB80 without amendment using the automated email tool at:

In November, State Representative David Simpson renewed his effort to defend your IV Amendment Rights by filing the Texas Travel Freedom Act (HB80). Speaker Straus responded by assigning HB80 to the State Affairs Committee, which is where most bills usally go to die. Firm lobbying is resurrecting this bill.

The public revulsion to TSA and the State Police's cavity searching 2 women in North Texas has motivated several career politicians (State Rep. Larry Phillips, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Sen. Dan Patrick) to file similiar bills that have received more favorable committee assignments. These alternatives do not safeguard your rights as strongly as David Simpson's bill, which proposes to criminalize bodily searches conducted by public servants without probably cause.

Take advantage of this opportunity to petition our state government. Though not widely reproted, your activism on this issue during last session has been cited as a principal reason why Ted Cruz defeated David Dewhurst in the 2012 primary to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate.
