Abstract:

Habitat (https://habitat.sh (https://habitat.sh/)) is a new open source project from Chef Software focused on the automation of applications. Habitat centers application configuration, management, and behavior around the application itself, not the infrastructure that the app runs on. This allows Habitat to be deployed and run on various infrastructure environments, such as bare metal, VM, containers, and PaaS. Habitat is comprised of plan and build system, a supervisor, an HTTP interface on that supervisor to report package status, a depot, a communication model for disseminating rumors through a supervisor ring, and many other components. Habitat is complementary to Mesos because it manages the lifecycle of applications within the containers while Mesos manages everything outside the container (managing compute, network, scheduling, etc.). This session will provide an introduction to Habitat and discuss the current state of the Mesos and Habitat integration.
