The new book "Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids: How to Stop Yelling and Start Connecting" by Dr. Laura Markham looks to be a perfect complement to our hardest challenge: how build systems into family life which will sustain respectful, loving relationships, no matter how stressed or frustrated the child or adult become.
The 21 reviews on Amazon for this book are all 5 stars. You can get a preview by checking out Dr. Markham's blog: www.ahaparenting.com (http://www.ahaparenting.com/)
Based on our survey last fall, we are changing the format of our book club and will focus on one book each semester. There are three sections in this book which is how we will focus our meetings:
Part One: Regulating Yourself -- meeting February 10th
Part Two: Fostering Connection -- meeting March 9th
Part Three: Coaching, Not Controlling -- meeting April 14th
Potential meeting May 5th to review the book as a whole.
As always, you are encouraged to join us even if you haven't finished reading the book. Our meetings are informal gatherings, using the book as a springboard for conversations about things going on in our lives and how we'd like to handle them. This is a great resource of literature, experience and support in being the best parents we can be.
