Railsbridge: Women's Ruby and Ruby On Rails Workshop

Details

• Saturday, October 25th, 6:00-9pm (REQUIRED): software install fest

• Sunday October 26th: 9:00am-4pm: workshop

This workshop is intended to reach out to women who are new to Ruby and Rails. If you are a man who would like to attend, please find the woman in your life who wants to learn Ruby and Rails so she can sign up and bring you as her guest. If you are a guy registering, please make sure you let us know who you are coming as a guest of.

Total programming novices, system administrators, developers in other languages, and folks who attended our previous workshops and need a refresher are all welcome. We'll have different groups separated by experience level. Each participant needs to bring his or her own laptop to work on.

The workshop is FREE of charge!

In this workshop, we'll take you through building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails. By the end of the workshop, you'll have an application on the internet that connects to a database and reads and writes information.

We'll meet up for Install Fest on Saturday to install all of the software you need, and then spend workshop day learning and writing code. You must attend the Install Fest on Saturday so we can all get working on our Rails project first thing Sunday.

When you RSVP you'll be asked a few question about your laptop operating system, level and type of programming experience, and whether you will be bringing any children. If possible we prefer to find other arrangements but let us know in the questionnaire if you need to bring children and we'll sort something out.

HUGE thanks to our sponsors! MakerSquare for providing space, thoughtbot for providing snacks/drinks for the installfest, Keep Ruby Weird for lunch!

TA's & Volunteers: If you would like to help at the event, please don't RSVP as a regular attendee. Please email Desi if you'd like to volunteer. (desi@thoughtbot.com).

Please Note: We emphatically support transgender attendees and are queer-friendly. If you have any questions, email desi@thoughtbot.com. Thanks!
