SATURDAY, MAY 8TH: BEGINNERS MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE AT SLAUGHTER CREEK TRAIL
Meet at 10 AM to ride the 5 mile trail at Slaughter Creek Preserve. This preserve was purchased by the City of Austin to provide water protection. The City of Austin Water Utility Department agreed to share a one-foot wide strip on the 700 acres that can be used for horseback riding, as well as hiking and cycling. There are plaques along the trail we can review to learn more about the land and water quality protection.
Directions: From Austin, go to the Y in Oak Hill. Continue west on Hwy 290 and turn left onto Camp Ben McCullough Rd./FM1826 (third traffic light after the Y). Drive approximately 2 miles, cross the low water bridge over Slaughter Creek and the property/gate entrance will be on your left. From Circle C and other areas in South Austin, take Slaughter Lane to Camp Ben McCullough Rd./FM1826. Turn left on Camp Ben/1826. Drive approximately 1 mile. Cross the low water bridge over Slaughter Creek and the property/gate entrance will be on your left. BIKE HELMET REQUIRED AND PLEASE BRING WATER.
