Hike to the Electric Vehicle show

Join us for an easy urban walk (2 miles round trip) along Shoal Creek, with our destination being the free Electric Vehicle show at Northland Rec Center.

Stimulate your curiosity by looking at, riding in, and test driving all of the coolest, eco-friendliest cars out there, without the pressures of the showroom floor. Electric scooters will also be on display for those who are bike-curious. Proud current owners of these vehicles will be attending --letting you poke around at the models they have and ask frank questions about real-world operation. We're expecting demo vehicles from Vectrix electric scooter, Chevrolet Volt, Ford Fusion, Nissan Leaf, Toyota RAV4, and (hopefully) Tesla!

Join us for lunch afterwards.

Consider taking Cap Metro to the start.  Drivers are recommended to park along Northland Drive.

It was fascinating to learn that you can take a gasoline operated car and turn it into an 'electric only' vehicle. My favorite car was the Fiskar. You could actually see the solar panels in the roof of the car and it looked like a sports car rather than the usual small plainer looking vehicles. The roads were too wet for the electric bike rides which were planned for the end of the exhibit.

I'll meet in front of Phil's at 10am, and if the weather is rainy, will just drive over to the EV show (less than a mile)

I'll set you there at the Plug-in event. I'll have a table set-up with SC membership materials.

I'll be at the Plug In Day event with our Volt and Leaf. I'll join you for a walk if time permits. See you there!

I'll probably ride my electric assisted bike to the rec. center, so I'll see you there sometime around 10:30.

We are meeting at the SW corner of Burnet & Northland. We'll be walking north along Shoal Creek, and browsing in the Rec Center parking lot. That's as much as I know. I'll be wearing a red visor.

Austin Energy is backing away from RESIDENTIAL solar energy. Any excess energy that is generated is taken by the city with NO compensation. (AE says they pay $.128/kwh, but it is only a credit, and that is taken away at the end of the year.) Meanwhile, comercial generators are given long term contracts with guaranteed generous ratesl.

I would have really loved to, but the annual Renewable Energy Roundup is happening in Fredericksburg that weekend and I've agreed to babysit a friend's booth on Sunday.

Niles, is it possible to attend this as well as the Pease Project event? I notice you are leading both so it seems obvious that both are doable. My preference is Pease, but this is also of interest. Thanks

    September 15, 2013

    • Niles S.

Yes I will be attending both events, so it's doable. If some want to stay longer at the EV show (for example there may be a long line to drive a Tesla!), we may split into 2 groups or have a quick lunch.
