Dance like no one’s watching. Ride our wave!
Come for an hour and a half of freeform dance where you can groove however your body wants, by yourself or with others. Bare your soles, surrender to the music and let your movement be guided by your body’s wisdom. There are no wrong moves. All ages welcome. No experience necessary.
We are not using the RSVP feature here, just come and dance with us!
Where: The lovely new Galaxy Dance Studios, 1700 S. Lamar Suite 338 Austin 78704
When: Sundays 11am-1pm
Cost: First dance is free. Then regular rate is $40 per 5-dance card or $9 per single dance.
More info: Questions? Email bchoir at gmail.com.
What to expect: We dance barefooted, with our eyes open, nonverbally (not talking), taking care of ourselves and respecting others’ boundaries. We begin with an approximately 30-minute “warm-up” dance, then there is an opening circle during which the BodyChoir facilitator speaks briefly, an approximately 1-hour dance, and finally a closing circle with an opportunity for individual “shareback” about your dance experience, followed by speaking names and ending with community announcements.
The facilitators’ music choices for their programs vary widely. The programs generally follow a wave form incorporating a series of rhythms: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness. Everyone makes of the BodyChoir experience what they choose. For many it is a deeply spiritual practice, for some it is play on a safe, sacred playground, for others it is simply an opportunity to be present and connect with their bodies, and some people come because they just wanna dance.
Come and dance your dance. Sundays, 11:00am to 1:00pm in BodyChoir's new home at Galaxy Dance Studios.
No need to RSVP.
"Dancing is not rising to your feet painlessly like a whirl of dust blown about by the wind. Dancing is when you rise above both worlds, tearing your heart to pieces and giving up your soul." Rumi
