Technique as Meditation Hoopshop with Ann Humphries visiting instructor

Details
In this 3-hour workshop, designed for hoopdancers with 50 or more hours of "flight time" (time spent interacting with the hoop), we will open lines of inquiry around the ways that technique can serve us in the practice of movement meditation.
To some hoopers, the word "technique" is offputting, suggesting some unreachable ideal form, inviting evaluation and breaking flow. In this class, I hope to, first, re-frame the idea of technique, enlarging its scope of possibility to include variation, play, exploration, and self-discovery, and second, help you find the edges in your practice where technique can allow you to deepen into the present, challenging the attention to stay with you in your dance at every possible moment.
We will explore through several different technical frames. Ideally, you will have a working familiarity with (NOT an exhaustive mastery of!) the following:
Waist hooping in both currents
Shoulder hooping in at least one current
Leg hooping in at least one current
Off-body techniques such as Lifting, Weaving, and Tossing
Bring your water bottle, plenty of energy, a snack if you need it, and a blindfold (I will have extras). Leave outside obligations and self-critical expectations at home! : )
