Hi to all the attendees of the 12th Annual Hunt!
Thank you so much for participating and making it a great event and fun for all! On behalf of the Cat Herders, I'd like to address the "unfinished business" from the Hunt: namely the hats (they have arrived!), "honorable mentions", things to return, and the raffle conclusion. Also, in case you missed the festivities of the evening, hearty congratulations go to the winner of the 13th Annual Hunt - Kendra and her team from "Chocolate Effect" (aka Better than Chocolate)! That means we have a whole year to look forward to her/their unique spin on "The Hunt"! It's about time you won, Kendra! At least they got plenty of alcohol to soothe the pain!
Hats - They're here! For those of you who requested a hat, thanks for your patience, we will have them available for you on the Tuesday monthly meeting (6/11). Please come by (even if you can't stay for the meeting) and pick them up (or if you know someone who's attending, perhaps they can pick up for you?). They were on the doorstep waiting for me - they just arrived a couple hours late! As Kirk says, there's always room for improvement...
The Raffle - For those of you who attended, the Hunt started late because some of the boats arrived late (as is typical of wayward uncooperative cats!). So everything got a bit behind and, ridiculous as it may seem, we didn't have time to give away all the stuff we had to give away! So the fun continues! Once we finish unpacking all the stuff, we will continue the raffle and announce all the remaining winners either here or at the meeting or both. Be patient - we just got home (it's 5pm) after breaking down the whole site - a big job! Special thanks and heart felt appreciation to Chris and George and Frederic and Bill for all their efforts in "deconstruction", packing, and assistance with transportation!
The Food - I frankly don't remember if proper and sufficient gratitude was expressed to Bill Benker for his awesome bbq efforts on our behalf (maybe that was due to the rum, beer, and margaritas?)! Anyway, it was awesome and heartily enjoyed by all and whenever you see him, buy him a beer and give him a hug! He went above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks!
The Shuttle Service - Kirk's son, Marcus, was kind enough to taxi many of you back and forth to your boats. He doesn't have blisters on his hands, he actually has raw flesh because the blisters wore off! He didn't have to do this, so I hope you thanked him for his tireless service!
The Sponsors of Alcohol & Other Prizes - I don't think I can express enough appreciation for all the individuals and businesses that contributed so much for us to enjoy! If you have the opportunity, please thank them by giving them some of your business/money! And don't forget to mention the Austin Sailing Society, so when Kendra organizes next year, they'll be happy to help her! In addition to the businesses, we also had gift basket/bag contributions from two of our members - Sandra and Dawn. Sandra's remains a mystery (as it's all wrapped up beautifully), but she says it has a "nautical" theme to what's inside. Dawn's gift is a basket filled with eco friendly cleaning supplies and some weight loss supplements. These will be part of the raffle that we continue soon! So, thank you, Dawn and Sandra!
Things that were lent to us - Our garage is full of tables, chairs, coolers, miscellaneous items from the Hunt. I don't know how to begin to coordinate their return and many still need to be cleaned up (did you notice the rain?). If you're in a hurry, by all means let us know and we'll arrange where to meet. If you know you're going to the meeting Tuesday night and everything will fit in my car, I can bring it there to you (but please let me know what it is and that you'll be there - I don't want to just load the car and not meet you). We also, unfortunately, had a couple of equipment failures in the carnage of the storm that blew through the campsite this morning. Thunder, lightening, high winds and an insane downpour rendered Kirk and I incapable of keeping up with the water pooling in all the easy ups (we were using noodles that had dowels in them to push up and dump water, but it was happening too fast in too many places) and the easy up at the far right (as you are facing the water) of the line of easy ups buckled. Also, the easy up in front of the registration tent had a smaller (probably wind related) failure, that may be reparable through replacement of one joint/part. We are so sorry about the losses and hope we can find a way to help resolve them.
That's all for now, folks! Thanks again for making it a great event...may we have many more yet to come (that we don't plan anyway!!!!)...
Lily, Kirk and Paul
