Happy March! Here's the first in a (hopefully) regular series of notes to let you know the latest about the group, and to make my usual request for hosted tastings.
First, our Chateauneuf du Pape and late winter Reds tasting was a really fun and successful event. The wine and conversation were both great, and many said it also was a great learning experience. We even discovered some surprise favorite wines. Thanks to all the participants, and thanks to Lori for hosting!
We did have a couple of potential tastings scheduled for March, but Lent and location issues have necessitated rescheduling, so the opportunity is there for those of you who might want to host a tasting. Some members didn't want to schedule events that conflicted with SXSW, but I don't think that will get in the way for most of us. Late March, is wide open, though, so if you are interested, send me a note.
If you are curious about a particular type of wine (varietal--eg Reisling; region--eg Bordeaux, Alto Adige, etc; country--eg Chile), and would like the opportunity to both learn more about this type of wine and taste a variety of examples of the wine, I invite you to host a tasting. It's easy, and fun! If you have a great place to host a tasting, and just like having a bunch of oenophiles over to chat about wine, please consider hosting. I also would like to urge anyone with an interest in hosting blind tastings to schedule a tastingl. Just email me your interest, and the month in which you would be interested in hosting.
Also, PLEASE, if you have expressed your interest to me while at a tasting, email me to follow up, so that I know you are still interested. Until you email me, I neither have your commitment nor enough details or to schedule the event.
I received a fun suggestion (a tasting at Cissi's Market, followed by dancing at the Continental Club) that was popular among members, so I'm working on scheduling this or something similar. I'm also thinking of doing just a meet-up (again, at the suggestion of members) at either Uncorked, Apothecary, the wine bar at Wink, or one of our other great wine venues in town. If/when these are scheduled, you'll get an email from me.
I hope you can make it out to one of our events soon!
