The 32nd Annual International 3-Day Novel Contest will take place Sept. 5 - 7, 2009 and demands that writers produce a masterwork of fiction in a mere 72 hours. What started as a bet in a bar in 1977 now attracts hundreds of writers from around the world each year.
I'm passing on info I was sent about a writing event, akin to NaNoRiMo but shorter in span. If it's your kind of thing, check it out! -h
Can you produce a masterwork of fiction in three short days? The 3-Day Novel Contest is your chance to find out. For more than 30 years, hundreds of writers have stepped up to the challenge every Labour Day weekend, fueled by nothing but adrenaline and the desire for spontaneous literary nirvana. It?s a thrill, a grind, a 72-hour kick in the pants and an awesome creative experience. How many crazed plotlines, coffee-stained pages, pangs of doubt and moments of genius will next year?s contest bring forth? And what will you think up under pressure?
Registration postmark deadline for the upcoming contest is Sept. 4. For more information on the contest and prizes, visit www.3daynovel.com.

Austin Writers is a meant as a source of positive reinforcement and community for writers of all kinds in the Austin area. During a regular month, we have 2 meetups; one in South Austin & one in North Austin. (I am in the process of expanding that to 4 meetups a month.) These will be discussion based where people bring examples of their current writing for sharing (read silently) and to spark discussion.
The goal is simply to help foster a community of writers in Austin, and provide continuity to keep us writing as we go through daily life. It is not a heavy-duty workshop type thing. Absolutely all writing styles and approaches are welcomed; fiction, non-fiction, journaling, experimental.
Requested Donation to cover fees: $3 per Meetup. Thanks for helping us thrive!
Please Note! Austin Writers Meetup focuses on Austin and the central urban area. There is also a Round Rock Writers Group, run by different folks:
