Dynamic Worlds: Techniques for Worldbuilding (4 of 4 workshops)
Dominican Joe Cafe
Saturday August 29

Worldbuilding is the process of fleshing out the outlines and details of a world for a piece of fiction or speculative prose. This class is one in a series of four workshops devoted to the subject.

This will be the last Dynamic Worlds workshop in this series of 4, focusing on worldbuilding at the smallest scale: That of Characters and their small worlds. These sessions are extra and apart from the standard Austin Writers meetups.

The sessions are limited to 10 people per workshop, and are $10 per attendee per session. Attendees are not required to sign up for all 4, and another person could also hop in and take an empty seat in a future one. After this last session and a break, I hope to repeat the 4 part workshop series in the future.

As before, the RSVP cap is set high, and priority will be given to those who pre-pay through PayPal, until the rsvp limit of 10 has filled. Several prior attendees have pre-registered for this one, but it is also possible to take them out of sequence and get a lot from the exercises even if you have not come before.

$10 per session gives you a printed guide to the lesson for that workshop, materials for the exercises, future updates to the resources, and continuing online access to a growing body of materials for the process. Each workshop will focus on concrete exercises that will make the worldbuilding process faster, more tangible, and also more flexible.

"Session 4: Worldbuilding At the Scale of Characters" will focus on details and broad categories that must be considered if one is describing the settings of a story's characters: objects, influences, day to day details. The techniques used should be helpful not only for worldbuilding, but also for overcoming writers block and for developing new scenarios in your work.

Please Bring: A pair of scissors, and a small container (sandwich-size tupperware should work.)

Note on registration: There are only 10 actual slots - The limit is at 25 to guarantee 10 pre-paid attendees. Please pre-register via PayPal or email me at [address removed] so I can send you a direct link. If you show up wishing to pay that day, show up early: After all 10 slots are filled, people will have to return for a future session instead. Thanks for understanding! See comments, below, for PAID status.
