OpenStack 4th Birthday Party - Sydney - Bring your cat.

  • Jul 10, 2014 · 5:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Even though celebrating a software stack's birthday makes me feel like one of those people who force their cats to wear sweaters and party hats, my very kind colleagues at the OpenStack Foundation are sending us cash to spend on a party! Naturally, sending US dollars to Australians inevitably means consumption of booze. So lets do OpenStack proud and see just how efficiently we can drink our way through US$500! Be sure to bring along your cat complete with it's finest sweater and hat.

PS - All and any Sponsors are welcome to chip in for when the $500 runs out. You can bring a banner, swag, corporate AMEX, and your presentation on a CD, DVD or BluRay disc. We will need those for coasters! ;-P

Besides celebrating, are any presentations scheduled?

Hi Gilles, It's just a party this time round, a chance for everyone to chat and network. We have the next presentation event in Aug with the TripleO night.

Ok, thanks for the follow-up. I'm asking because I've a family plan so I won't make it.

Sorry I can't join you - someone took all my cats...

Thanks Roland, poster is nice idea. : ) Can you send thru proofs and I'll add photo? I hope this is effective, as my concern is over a contract related to disputed gang-affiliated Poker debts.

Never-the-less pool game is also a bonus. If we can arrange some early-evening fight practice for back-to-back defence tactics with pool cue, I'm more hopeful for my chances of survival...

An OpenStack pool comp is a fantastic idea! We can even continue it on or have a finals round in the Anchor event space when we host an event here.

+ for Louise's vote for The Morrison on George St. I don't want to risk getting stabbed at World Square or the Star Bar for the sake of $1... just sayin'. Also my cat really likes oysters. : )

$1 less is 20% more drinks, and we get an extra hour in which to consume them!

Re: stabbing, I'll see if we can organise a sign at the front door that says "Please do not stab this man" next to a picture of you.

I also agree about the time thing, 5-7PM is a very short window. Most of the attendees are employed, so they won't be able to show up until *after* 5, leaving only a relatively short window in which to optimal levels of social lubrication at the Foundations expense...which is really the point of the night.

I'd prefer LBuddha but happy with Star Bar, not too big on the suit vibe at The Morrison. Venue should be comfortable for geeks to chat.

Just checked out Star Bar on George - just 20c more per drink than LBudda but venue over 2 levels and pool tables!

    July 3, 2014

    • Tristan G.

Pool tables yeah! Perhaps time to devise an OpenStack flavoured pool competition

      A star in a cheaply priced bar - I'm in ...

Plus, I assume Louise is throwing her corporate Amex behind the bar at The Morrison after 7PM, so that's awesome. Thanks Lou.

When will we receive a post about the final decision about meeting up? I'm flexible.

Ok so the first location suggestion has come in - The Laughing Budda at World Square $4 spirits from 5 till 8.

According to our comprehensive research, Laughing Budda is still the front runner.

seems like a very Zen choice :)

Hey Tristan, it appears that the Laughing Budda is the place to be for the Openstack meetup. I don't have a cat, so I may bring along a colleague instead.
