Knowing exactly what resources have been used and by whom is critical when administering cloud infrastructure, be it publicly-accessible or just for internal customers. Ceilometer handles the data collection side, but how do you store this data in the long term, and how can you use it to generate invoices or give customers insight into their resource consumption?
This talk will be a rundown of Anchor's (http://www.anchor.com.au/) approach to tracking resource usage and will cover some of the pitfalls and technical tradeoffs involved in building a scalable, flexible and reliable metering system for a public cloud deployment.
