Ways to build an automation team

Details

One of the hardest parts of bringing automation to an organization can be simply getting started. How do you find the right people? How do you train your current people? Luckily, we have some answers for you! Bob Jones from Chatham Financial and John Klose from Swift will each speak about their experiences and challenges in building a QA team focused around automation.

Since graduating from St. Joseph’s with a BS and MS in Mathematics and Computer Science (respectively), John Klose has worked in software development for some of the most renowned companies local to the Philadelphia area. Six years after getting recruited by Amazon to manage several teams in their Seattle HQ, John returned to Philadelphia to build out a team of technologists at Swift Capital, a local software product company focused on helping small-sized businesses generate capital from banks around the globe. Currently building out his own QA Automation team, John offers a unique insight from his experience currently as well as his experience from Amazon.

At Chatham Financial, Bob grew a small traditional testing team in a single location to a scaled-up distributed technical agile team. The Chatham team grew by selective hiring, training existing staff, extensive use of frameworks, commercial tools, open-source tools, and blending roles between development and testing.

Additionally, if anyone has a problem they are currently facing on the job, we will have some time for the group to brainstorm solutions.

Pizza and beer will be provided. Talks will start around 7pm.

Note: We had a few logistical hiccups and needed to move the date of the meetup! Oct 1 is confirmed and PromptWorks has kindly offered to host us. Sorry for the last minute changes!
