Kick off the weekend & boating season with a pontoon boat ride around Lake Norman Friday, May 30th. We'll meet at the Rusty Rudder (exit 28 off I-77) & depart promptly at 4 pm. We'll cruise over to the sandbar where we can drink, swim, play flip-cup, beer pong, and possibly tie up with other boats. Then we'll island hop around the lake and return to the Rudder by 8 pm. Parking: Technically you're not supposed to park at the Rusty Rudder lot for boating, most people do; free parking is available on Henderson Ave. just before the Rusty Rudder lot. Bring your own beer/food (no glass please)
This is a paypal pre-pay event. Please paypal $10 to [masked] to reserve your spot. Space is limited to 12 people. Things to bring: beer/snacks, towel, sunscreen, sunglasses. Boat rules: No glass, no liquor bottles (NC state law), no smoking, no drugs - please take every thing you brought on the boat with you when you leave. Policy: Refunds only for bad weather; you can transfer your spot to someone else.

Thanks for coming everyone! It was a good time aside from a little bad weather start. If you could go to Facebook and like "pontoon charter LKN" & post some pics that'd be great - especially some that were playing beer pong/flip cup in the lake that was a first, hope everyone had a good time!

I live uptown on Trade St. I'd be willing to give you some gas money or free booze if you want to drive together!

It's a little cloudy but no chance of rain in the forecast for this evening, and still plenty warm enough to swim! Brad and I will be up at the marina by 4, it seems some can't get there till closer till 5, so feel free to show up any time between 4-5 and hang out on the boat at the dock until we have every one on board. Parking shouldn't be an issue but the Rusty Rudder lot is the spot to park, then walk down the hill and you'll see the fence at B-dock, some times it's locked, some times it's open. Feel free to text me if you need me to let you in:[masked]-2830. Look forward to seeing everyone between 4-5, please text/call me if you can't make it so we're not all sitting there waiting for you! We'll head back to the Rudder around 8:30.

I would prefer 4 to 8 if my vote still counts but either is fine. I'm just ready to have a good time!

  • Jennifer

hi has the time been confirmed? Is it still 4-8 or later? 5-9 would work better for me

    May 29

    • chris

Please see above comments on time - I'm up for what the overwhelming majority would prefer.

This sounds fun. I work on Fridays myself. Some Saturdays would work for me.

Thanks for your interest in the pontoon! I realize a lot more people would go out on the weekends but I charter it out every Saturday/Sunday for $50/hour. So I've been trying to take it out more often during the week. If you'd like more info you can check out: www.facebook.com/pontooncharterLKN

We should so move it to. 8 till midnight

Only problem is swimming. There aren't many lights out there and I'm not sure how I feel about jumping off a boat in almost complete darkness. Don't think there would be too man people out that late. Could do 5-9 but not sure that would help folks.

I am hoping to make it but might not know until closer to Friday, when is the cut off?

    May 26

    • chris

Lindsay - Thanks for your interest. We still have room so if you'd like to sign up go ahead. If you want to wait and see how the weather looks, we're going to make a decision around noon tomorrow, looks like 50% chance of rain.

The weather looks a little iffy tomorrow, about a 50% chance of rain, but it did say the same thing on Memorial Day and we were out all day and it didn't rain till the very end. Let's wait till noonish and make a decision. The boat does have a canopy and there are islands we can dock at to wait out a passing storm, so if it's just scattered showers I'd prefer to still go, but I'm up for what the overwhelming majority would like to do. Hope to see every one tomorrow!

I picked the 4-8 time frame since I'm not a fan of boating at night, sunset is 8:30. I don't think most want to swim at night; it does get really dark out there and the boat has lights but they're lights to show other boats where you are. I don't want to run over a swimmer I don't see in the dark, beaching the boat, docking the boat, things are just much safer when you can see, especially after you add in a few beers, I'm a new boat owner that's just what I feel comfortable with.
Also it's Friday night, so it'd be nice to get back uptown, shower, and be able to go out and have a few drinks, watch some sports, etc. If the majority of people would prefer to wait till 5-6 to go out, we can leave whenever, I'd just like to be back at the docks by 8:30, for reasons stated above.
I realize a lot more people would go out on the weekends but I charter it out for $50/hour every Saturday & Sunday. If you're interested in more info: www.facebook.com/pontooncharterLKN

50% chance of rain tomorrow :( Are we going to set a time to make a call as to whether we are still going based on the weather?

    May 29

    • chris
