What: Snowshoeing to First Peak of Mt. Seymour

( We will hike to Brockton Point and depending on condtions we will continue to First Peak )

HIKING DETAILS

Region: North Shore

Difficulty: Intermediate (You must be moderately fit and have snowshoed before)

Time: Maximum 3 hours depending on pace, and breaks

Pace: Moderate, but definitely NOT slow! (You must be able to keep up with the group)

Distance: It is 7 km (return) to the 1st peak

Meeting place: We will meet in front of A&W in the Parkgate Village Shopping Centre, north west corner of Mount Seymour Parkway & Mount Seymour Road (1133 Mount Seymour Road). We will carpool there. Drivers: having snow tires is important.

Getting from the A&W to Seymour Mountain: It is very easy to get to A&W at Parkgate Shopping Centre by public transit.  From there, if you don't have a ride, you can get the shuttle bus to Seymour: http://www.mountseymour.com/gettinghere-shuttle For example, there is a shuttle departing from the Parkgate Shopping Centre at 10:05am.

Once at the mountain: We will meet at the trailhead sign .

Please come prepared to the snowshoe with:

1. Hiking Boots (Water-proof recommended)

2. Rain Gear (Water-proof/resistant jacket, pants and gators)

3. Layered Clothing

DRIVING DIRECTIONS to Mount Seymour:

From Highway #1, head north over the Ironworkers Memorial (Second-Narrows) Bridge in the middle lane. Take the third exit after the bridge (#22a), signed as Mount Seymour Parkway. Turn right onto Mount Seymour Parkway almost immediately and follow it 4.4 km before turning left onto Mount Seymour Road. Follow Mount Seymour Road as it winds it's way up the mountain. Drive to the end of the large parking lot at the end of the road.

CARPOOLING:

In consideration of the environment and high cost of fuel, it is recommended that we carpool whenever possible.

While the group does not endorse any formal policy, it is typically suggested that passengers offer the driver $5.00 per half hour of driving. However, private arrangements between passenger(s) and driver may be made ahead of time. Please note in your RSVP whether you can offer a ride or need a ride, and where you will be coming from. Passengers, please ensure you show up on time and bring an extra bag for muddy footwear and clothing.

***PLEASE NOTE: We are a group composed of volunteers. We are not a professional organization. As such, each of us is responsible for our own safety and well-being during an event. However, as a group of friends, we make an effort to look out for one another to the best of our ability .Please read waiver that comes with this meet up group and if u agree you may join the hike .

Sooooo Albee, when do we smash last nights record time? Ha ha. What a wonderful evening. It was like a quick walk around the block without having the chance to stop for a chocolate bar. Me and my sweet tooth. :-D. GREAT JOB TEAM!!

Clear skies, cold breeze, warm tea... that's a night on the local mountains. Was nice to feel a little powder as we approached First Peak, along wit the ice & exposed rocks. Always a blast to hang with the night crew. You're doing good work Albee, :)

Thanks Albee: "It's not a race." "What was our time?" "That was our fastest ever!" "It's not a race." wind chill, tasty tea, beautiful stars and moon, good climb, good friends, good way to spend an evening :)

Thanks for organizing and getting us out, Albee (although, I don't believe "I" actually had a choice! ;-) lol) Two nights in a row may have been a bit ambitious but we still got out and braved the frigid temperatures (much colder than last night!) Hope you all have a fun, adventurous microspike up to Brockton and First Peak! Wonderful to see you all! :-)
