Atheist Days 2008 (First Ever Out-door Atheist Festival in the US)

Hello Everyone:

Would you all be interested in attending our First Annual Atheist Days event. Your presence would help guarantee the success of the event. Let me provide some background and context.

What has always been missing for Atheists is a social structure. Atheists are not joiners and are still a little skittish about joining in public protest. It takes a big event to get them to show up in numbers. Or a big party with bands and kegs.

Beltway Atheists ( has had a lot of success in the last couple of years by having Atheist meetups which are purely social events. We do not have fees, rules, or officers. We do not have parliamentary procedures or guest speakers. And, because we all agree on Evolution and stem cell research and the First Amendment, we don't intend to inflict any hour long speeches on attendees. Besides, there are lots of organizations that provide that - their turnout is typically 20 people or less and average age is 60.

Instead, we have decided to hold a weekend event in mid August, on the 39the anniversary of Woodstock, which will be a two day party with music. The location is Half Moon Beach, a scenic water-filled quarry/swimming hole, near Front Royal VA. There is a sand beach, bathroom facilities, plenty of room for camping, and a covered pavilion for performance. It is a little rustic, but very cool and private. Music can go late and loud. It will be adults only. Bring a tent and some food and your choice of intoxicants.

I used to attend annual parties there, thrown by my neighbors, who were a local bar band and their musician friends. We would roll in on Friday afternoon, music and dancing 'til very late, recover Saturday more music Saturday night, and load out on Sunday.

We always had great music, and a great time. I always envisioned having a similar event for the Atheist community and it looks like we will finally be able to do it this year. Gonzo's Nose & Willem Dicke

It will be a fun weekend with two or three hundred of our closest Atheist friends. Pastor Deacon Fred of Landover Baptist will be in attendance and we are trying to pull in a few more Atheist friendly performers. We have also invited the Rational Response Squad, Hemant Mehta, Christopher Hitchens & Comedy Jesus.

Please feel free to contact me either through Jeff Wismer or directly for more info.
