Hey there,

I'll answer the questions below. Enjoy!

So, I was thinking, (never a good thing), in order to give us an accurate profile, I need some background info.  So here goes.

1.  What does everyone do for a living?  I know we come from all walks of life, but I'd just like to know officially.

I am a graduate student at the University of Maryland Baltimore getting a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology

2.  Who, and how many, of us have abandoned religion?

I was fortunate enough to be raised by parents who were atheists. Religion was never brought up in the house and I discovered it on my own later (and I easily rejected it this way - I didn't need it, nor did I think it was necessary to accept any of their claims as true).

3.  What fallout from abandoning religion have we faced?

Not too much, to be honest. Sometimes I will get into arguments with theists, but I try to keep it civil. Its not discussed very much with other religious members of my non-immediate family.

4.  How long ago, or at what age, did you walk away?

I have never been a theist

5.  What level of education do you have?

I just got my bachelors last year and Im working on a Ph.D. now

6.  City or country?

City! (Baltimore)

7. What hobbies do you have?

I love to dance - Im involved in the Salsa scene around here as well as some ballroom. That is probably one of my main hobbies.

8.  Are you raising kids?  If so, are you raising them secular or just not mentioning it?

No kids! But see my parents example.

9.  What is your vision for GBAC?

The main thing atheists need to do is tear down the misconceptions, and present atheism as a valid alternative option. People see religion and faith as something virtuous, something that is unquestionably good, and to lack this is seen as something taboo. What I think atheists need to do is present themselves as happy, reasonable, law-abiding people who dont NEED religion - this will change the public perception and ultimately draw more people away from it, I think.
