I have been using scripting at work in perl, and wound up discovering and falling in love with Ruby. I've used it at as a general programming language for small projects for a while, but in a lot of ways, the things I love about it are the ease of use for small programs of perl with the elegance of functional languages. So I have been trying to learn a functional language and came across the Lisp family, in particular Clojure. My experience so far has been that it's gorgeous, but I'm not yet convinced I'm smart enough to actually write anything legitimate in it yet. I'd like to join this meetup in the hope of learning enough to make it over that hump!
A coworker mentioned this meetup group as he says that he knew of one of the people who attends.
I'm 24, lived in Maryland most of my life. I work as an engineer for a local company; I don't program for a living.
