MongoDB: What and Why

Details
You've heard of MongoDB, and you know it's a popular NoSQL database, but what's all the hype about? What makes Mongo different than other database solutions? Why are people switching to Mongo, and why are they loving it?
Wow, you sure sound curious. But that's perfect, because this month's presentation will address exactly those questions. We'll start by taking a look at what inspired Mongo, and what makes it particularly suited for today's big and small data needs. We'll also learn Mongo's core concepts and terminology, and how Mongo can rise to the challenges of your data growing up, growing out, and changing shape.
Whether you're evaluating Mongo as part of a trade study or just watching Mongo out of the corners of your eyes with one eyebrow raised in skeptical curiosity, this is the meetup for you.
This month's meetup is a prequel, if you will, to last month's "Getting Started" presentation by Mike Behrens. Several newcomers at July's meeting expressed that while Mike's talk was quite practical and informative, they would like to see a presentation that focused on introducing Mongo at a more conceptual level. So this month, we're aiming to answer that call.
Also, 10gen is hosting "office hours" starting an hour before this meetup (at 4:30). Two local 10gen engineers will be available for what essentially amounts to free consulting. If you would like to attend the office hours, please RSVP separately to that event.
