ATY Diploma Peabody Prep 2001, BM, MM Piano Performance from University of Maryland. DMA Composition from University of Maryland, 2001-2012. I've played solo piano, chamber music, jazz, blues, church music, band music, dance music, funeral music. I've directed and conducted musical productions.
My doctoral dissertation was a project on Improvisation wherein I explored the many roles that improvisation plays in the creative process. These processes included film and dance collaboration, teaching improvisation, and using improvisation as a basis for composition. Every human has the capacity to create music at will in the present moment, but intuition is often stifled by drills and methods that only seem interested in yielding quick results. I hope to eradicate mediocrity by teaching music as a balance of creativity and structure so that talent can flourish. As a composer, I've tried many things: pop songs, solo piano pieces, commercial music, silent film music, chamber music, but I feel that my voice is fragmented in all of these different formats. Lately, I've been getting into Rock music, because if you're gonna play your own music live, you might as well melt some faces.
I am a musician and teacher from Annapolis, Maryland. I studied at the Peabody Institute from 1993 to 2001, then at the University of Maryland from 2001 to 2012 where I received a DMA in Composition. Life skills include swimming, yoga, driving. :-)
