The Atheist Film Festival (http://sfatheistfilmfestival.org/), created in 2009, is world’s first film festival dedicated to showcasing feature films, documentaries, shorts and animated cinema created especially for the secular community.

Whether you’re an atheist, agnostic, skeptic, secular humanist, heathen, heretic, bright or just a fan of fresh, offbeat cinema that celebrates and encourages reason, critical thinking and freedom of inquiry both inside and outside of the movie theater, the Atheist Film Festival is for you.

Line Up

The Atheist Film Festival (AFF) welcomes one of our best lineups yet for the festival’s 5th anniversary in 2013. From a dramatized take on Charles Darwin’s life to a depressingly true account of religious fundamentalists’ attempts to infiltrate public schools, the films selected for the 5th Annual Atheist Film Festival continue to raise questions and break rules.

Featured films include

• The Revisionaries: The theory of evolution and a re-write of American history are caught in the crosshairs when an unabashed Creationist seeks re-election as chairman of America's most influential Board of Education. Dir. Scott Thurman, 92 min, 2012.

• Hug An Atheist: This world premier is a documentary film about atheism in the USA, dispelling the myths and untruths following ordinary American atheists on their journey through life. Dir. Sylvia Broeckx, 2013 (post-production)

• Sophia Investigates the Good News Club: A window on the religious fundamentalism that is forcing public schools to subsidize and promote its agenda. Dir. Scott Burdick, 36 min, 2012

• Kūmāré: A feature documentary film about the time filmmaker Vikram Gandhi impersonated a fake guru and built a following of real people. Dir. Vikram Ghandi, 84 min, 2011

• Creation: English naturalist Charles Darwin struggles to find a balance between his revolutionary theories on evolution and the relationship with religious wife, whose faith contradicts his work. Dir. Jon Amiel, 108 min, 2009

• The Magdalene Sisters: In this film based on real-life events, three young Irish women struggle to maintain their spirits while they endure dehumanizing abuse as inmates of a Magdalene Sisters Asylum. Dir. Peter Mullan, 119 min, 2002

Special Guests:

• Sylvia Broeckx, Director

• Scott Thurman, Director

• Sophia Winkler, Reporter
