EBA: Dr. Eric Stone Speaks on Atheism: The Struggle & the Promise

This month East Bay Atheists features retired experimental neuroscientist, Dr. Eric Stone, who will present an overview of his forthcoming book, Atheism:The Struggle and the Promise.  The book is a general indictment of religion and covers its origins, violence, war on atheism,  lies &  deceptions, war on women's rights, attempts to overthrow secular democracy  and more.  It then shows how rational atheism can repair much of the damage done and benefit us all.

Eric is a long time atheist activist & leader, retired from NYU, who recently moved to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek. He is now the Co-Coordinator of the Rossmoor atheist group, and is well known to attendees of American Atheists conventions.

Please join us in welcoming him to the Bay Area.

Afterwards we will go to dinner at King Dong at 2429 Shattuck Ave at Haste.

Great talk on a very well defined subject. I feel that Dr. Stone has gathered all the date to arrive at the same conclusions that I believe. I will buy his book as soon as it it available to use as a reference. Meanwhile, I have a few names with whom I have not been acquainted to research and other data to become more familiar with on our way to the promise. It is terrific to hear a very positive voice in support of the contention that we can perform acts to effect the change our society desperately needs.

I'd rather wait until the book is out in a month or two and you've had a chance to look it over before trying to answer your questions.

    Questions to Dr Eric Stone
After having written your book which is a major contribution to rational thinking, have you considered taking it one step further - which is - what is the root cause of religious beliefs that in turn causes all of the struggle you write about?
Despite what we know today and scientific evidence, why do the vast majority (95%) still have beliefs?
Do you Dr Stone also have beliefs outside of religion? Is this really the root cause? .... such that religion is only the most obvious of its (belief) manifestation? That irrational beliefs causes bias that in turn causes the problems in the first place?

I am unable to attend due to a time conflict & hoping that we can progress from the what to the why. Once the correct why is pursued, then hopefully we really understand the problem & only then can we hope for a solution.

fyi, I corresponded with you at Rossmoor.
