On the third Tuesday of each month from 12:30 to 3:30, the Bay Area Humanists volunteer at the food bank.  This is an opportunity for us to help those in need.  The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank delivers 46 MILLION pounds of food a year to 450 partner nonprofits.  Each DAY 105,000 meals will be distributed!

In addition to helping, this outing allows us a chance to "do good" in the company of other Humanists and get to know each other better, when someone asks what group we are with, it gives us an opportunity to educate people about Humanism.

A Muni bus stops in front of the food bank.

Another great day at the food bank, where we helped pack 24,000 pounds of corn! This was our biggest turnout in our 4 month infancy, with 8 people volunteering. So happy to see some new faces. Welcome to Mary Carzoli and Lori. Looking forward to next month's event.

Do we need to bring anything like apron, hat, hairnets?

    • Jim B.

Hi Lori, no you don't have to bring anything. Hairnets and gloves, if needed, will be provided. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Good job Jim! Even though people can directly volunteer, a meetup makes it easier... that extra stimulation. You are a shining example of what a humanist is.

Thanks Ming. Yes, doing these projects with others makes it easier and more fun. It also helps combat the stereotype that only religious people do good in the community.

This is a really well organized event - the SF Food bank does a great job of using our time and it is actually fun. I can't make this one, but have the calendar marked for June and July.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
