Announcing a new Meetup for Bay Area Classical Music Meetup!

What: Monthly Music Salon in Menlo Park (led by Erik Ulman)

When: Tuesday, November 23,[masked]:00 PM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

Erik Ulman is an outstanding young musician, composer, and teacher on the faculty of Stanford's Music Dept.
His bio: http://www.potoweb.org/pages/erikulman.html

The Solon, now in its 2nd year, is organized by a Palo Alto friend of mine who enrolled in--and was enamored by--Erik's Music Appreciation course at Stanford Continuing Studies. Until now the Salon has had no MeetUup connection.

It's a mix of informal lecture, listening, and discussion and lasts about 2 hours. I've been attending since last fall, and have immensely enjoyed each meeting--and learned a great deal, too.

About 12-14 people usually attend, and there's room for at least another 4-5.

Most of the participants have some musical background--play instruments; have some the history of classical music; maybe some exposure to music theory. But all music lovers are welcome to check it out.

The fee is $20 per meeting--if you commit to coming for the remainder of the academic year (ends in June). But come check it out, and if it's not right for you, you'll not be charged for doing so.

This Year's focus is mainly on the transition from romanticism to modernism; Mahler will be front and center tomorrow night.

Location: A "common room" on the 1st floor of a plush apartment building in d'town Menlo Park: 1330 University Drive, (at Valparaiso Ave, nr. Menlo School). Street parking's easy. The Salon is held in a very comfortable seating situation, with a fantastic sound system.

Dessert and teas will be provided.

If you're interested, but cannot make tomorrow's (sorry again about short notice!) the next meeting occurs Nov. 30 (because December's too holiday-crazy of a month to schedule a meeting). The schedule for 2011 hasn't been set yet, but we usually have met on Monday's or Tuesday's, thus far.

I'll make my phone number available to those who sign up. The location's about a mile from the Menlo Park CalTrain station. Let me know if you need any help/advice with travel logistics.
