http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/8/c/5/2/event_186215922.jpegThis is a long. flat Winter Solstice shoreline ride on bike lanes from the San Leandro BART to the San Leandro Shoreline. Then on to many beautiful miles of shoreline trail and expansive Bay views. Trail is smooth asphalt all the way to San Lorenzo...at this point, skinny tires are not recommended.

San Lorenzo is also a turn around point for any riders who are not up for riding miles of dirt packed trails and possibly short stretches of pea gravel...or for any riders who want a shorter ride. Mileage is around 25+ miles and unlike most of our rides, it is a turn around instead of a loop...but you will see things look very different on the return trip. The final 5 miles from San Lorenzo Creek to the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center is the most interesting and scenic part of this ride.

We are in the midst of migratory bird season and we will see amazing birds on this route as we get further into the marsh areas along the Hayward Shoreline. Bring your cameras, binoculars and a yummy picnic lunch for this one. We will enjoy our picnic lunch at the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center which is also our rest room stop.

There are no bike shops around here folks...so prepare carefully...layers, head gear to stay warm under the Helmet, gloves, water, snacks, extra tire tubes, etc. As always be sure your gear is in good shape and you are adequately fit for the ride. Inclement weather will definitely cancel this ride and it will be rescheduled at a later date....
