Thought you might want to know about this hike happening this Saturday! It's going to be awesome weather and awesome company. Hope you can make it!!
THIS WILL BE A NICE END OF SUMMER HIKE AT POINT REYES NATIONAL SEASHORE! WE’LL VISIT Indian, Hearts Desire, Pebble and Shell Beaches and take a long lunch at Shell Beach where the warm TOMALES BAY waters are said to be nice for swimming!
Start time: 9:45 A.M.
Distance: 9 Miles.
Pace: 2-2.5 MPH.
Difficulty: Moderate due to distance.
Hike Time: 6-7 hrs.
Parking Fee: $8. (Bring exact amount for self-parking kiosks)
Dogs: Sorry, not allowed on the trails.
Cost: $2 cash per person.
WHAT TO BRING: $2 cash. Hiking shoes, layered clothing, LUNCH, sun-block, hat, camera, water & swimsuit/towel if you want to swim.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON THIS HIKE: This hike is a group effort, meaning we stay together as a group and wait at all trail junctions for the group to arrive. The organizer calls periodic short breaks and a longer lunch break will occur at Shell Beach.
WHO & HOW TO ATTEND: Fit people who can handle a 9 mile hike. Members willing to answer the RSVP questions and have read the " About Us" page. Answering the RSVP questions is a requirement to attend this hike.
If you have a ride to offer or need a ride state so in your RSVP or use the discussion board. Carpools recommended to save money on gas & parking fees.
From San Francisco take 101 to San Rafael.
Exit onto Sir Francis Drake Blvd [exit will be marked 'san anselmo'].
Continue west on Sir Francis Drake to Olema. You will reach a T-intersection [by the Olema Inn]. That is highway 1.
Turn right [onto highway 1 north].
After about a block turn left into 'bear valley road' [the sign will say 'to lighthouse'..this is easy to miss].
Drive 2.2 miles on Bear valley road until it joins with Sir Francis Drake highway.
Bear left on Sir Francis Drake and drive 5.6 miles.
Take the right fork onto Pierce point road (Tomales Bay State Park and McClures Beach).
Drive about 1.2 miles to the park entrance on the right side of the road.
Drive down the park road about 0.7 mile, to the ranger station.
Then continue about 0.9 mile to the parking lot at the end of the road (not the Heart's Desire lot) [Follow the signs to 'Additional Parking' keeping right at any forks].
Please be aware that we expect you to take responsibility for your safety while we are out on the trails. This means arriving ON TIME to leave with the group, being prepared with adequate hiking gear, hike fee and making sure the difficulty level of the event IS NOT beyond the limits of your health & conditioning. In addition, please show COURTESY to fellow members by changing your **YES* RSVP to a **NO** if your plans change. **IMPORTANT** Members who regularly sign-up for events, but who DO NOT show-up, may be removed from the list, to make room for more reliable members. We understand that your "Yes" RSVP to this event means you accept this.
