New Meetup: Tomales Bay beach camping

From: Bob S.
Sent on: Monday, June 15, 2009 11:50 PM
Announcing a new Meetup for Bay Area Everything Outdoors Club for 20,30,40 year olds!

What: Tomales Bay beach camping

When: July 25,[masked]:00 AM

Price: $55.00 per person

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: This is a rare opportunity to camp out on a boat-in only beach along the west side of scenic Tomales Bay. To reach the beach, I'll rent a motor boat that can take us and all our gear to the beach site. Since the rental company will not let us keep the boat overnight, the boat must be returned and a kayak rented to paddle 1 mile to the beach. On Sunday, I will paddle back across the bay and rent the motor boat to pick up everyone else.

The meetup fee of $55/person covers the cost of 2 days of motor boat rental, 1 day kayak rental, and campsite reservation for 8 people. If less than 8 people sign up, the cost will be higher. Payment should not be made until the actual price has been determined on the deadline of July 11 (two weeks before the event).

Additional Details:
The beach campsite is called Marshall Beach, which is directly across from the village of Marshall. There is a pit toilet but no running water so water must be brought across with the boat in addition to food, firewood, and other beverages. I kayaked on this Bay with 14 other members of this meetup group on June 6 and the water was calm, the paddling easy, and the views were incredible.

The boat will be rented at Lawson's Landing which is on the Northeast side of the Bay about 6 miles north of Marshall. We will meet at Lawson's Landing at 11AM to rent the boat and load our gear and leave the cars overnight. I will ferry people to the beach where we will have the motor boat available to us to tour the rest of the Bay. I will then return to Lawson's Landing, and drive down to Marshall and rent a kayak to paddle approximately 1 mile back to the beach. We will then have the kayak for 24 hours to take turns exploring the area around the beach. When it's time to go, I'll paddle across the bay, return the kayak and re-rent the boat to come get the remaining campers. This could be the camping trip of a lifetime!
