Aloha and welcome to the Bay Area Hula Dancing Meetup Group!
As a lifelong hula dancer, I have a passion for sharing my Hawaiian culture and the joy of hula with those who want to learn.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
This Meetup group will provide you with the opportunity to learn hula in a FUN and inviting atmosphere, enjoy the company of other fun-loving folks and make new friends.
While we now have a "permanent home" I'd love to meet at different locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area so everyone has a chance to join. If you have a location you'd like to recommend, let me know!
A little bit about me...
I've been dancing hula, literally, since I could stand up. One of my first solo performances was for my kindergarten class!
My mother is a professional hula dancer who, at the age of 80, is still teaching and performing hula in San Diego, CA. My father was a gifted Hawaiian musician who mastered just about every stringed and percussion instrument he's ever attempted to play.
Growing up, my family performed a Polynesian Revue at corporate events, social clubs, private parties, local television shows, and regular "Aloha Friday" gigs in Northern California. As an adult, I performed and competed in California and on the Big Island of Hawai'i with Hula Halau O' Pi'ilani under the direction of the late Kumu Hula Aunty Linda Danek.
I now teach traditional ('auana style) hula for kids, teens and adults as well as my trademark Hula for the Soul™ classes for teens and adults. Hula for the Soul™ classes are unique in that they incorporate hula, chant, meditation and ha breathing along with traditional hula moves! You can learn more about my classes at www.HulaForTheSoul.com/Classes.
This background, along with my passion for hula dance, is a legacy I want to share. I hope you will join us in a spirit of aloha.
