How did you become interested in International Development?

I love traveling and working in developing countries, and my interest in International Development was borne of this and a desire to use my time and energy to work towards a more sustainable global future. I'm particularly passionate about the untapped potential that girls and women have -- especially in the developing world -- and seek to help unlock it through the work we do at Shukuru. Through entrepreneurial training, a microloan to set up a small business, and a unique microsavings, donor-matching program, Shukuru empowers girls to earn their own way through school and helps them learn how to transform their lives.

I work with Shukuru, a local non-profit whose purpose is to enable underprivileged girls in sub- Saharan Africa to invest in their own secondary education instead of relying on a handout.
