Discussion topic: Things that didn't work

Hello all

We're meeting up in Berkeley this Wednesday as usual at 7pm in the Starbucks at 2128 Oxford St. Then we'll walk to the Free Speech Cafe on campus. (They sell sandwiches and stuff.)

The discussion topic this week is "things that didn't work". Instrumental rationality is all about finding methods and tools that help us achieve our goals. But it's also about identifying which methods and tools aren't useful. Have you ever tried something that utterly failed to make you any more productive, happy, wealthy, or pretty? Tell me your story and I will listen :)
