R4R Speaker Series: Accepting the Absurd

Details

"A Reason for Reason" skeptical speaker series returns in December with the most fundamental of less-wrong topics... Please join us and tell your friends! Accepting the Absurd: How Skepticism is Revealing the Nature of the Universe Our current understanding of the universe incorporates ideas that seem absurd: Space is expanding and accelerating. Most of the “stuff” of the universe isn't the protons and neutrons that a generation was taught to believe. Why does science take these things seriously? This talk will explain the evidence and thought process that have forced a fundamental re-examination of our understanding of the nature of our universe. The result is both strange and deeply satisfying. About the Author: Leonard Tramiel is the coordinator of the Center for Inquiry (CFI) San Francisco, is on the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CSI) Executive Council, and holds a PhD is Physics from Columbia University. He is a retired hi-tech executive with a deep interest in science, science education, and public attitudes toward science. WHEN: 7:30PM, Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 (Talk starts at 8PM sharp) WHERE: Kells Irish Pub, 530 Jackson Street, San Francisco, CA 94133 For more information, see https://reason4reason....
