Bay Area NLP Reading Group

Details
Doors at 6:30 PM, discussion from 7:00-8:00.
Venue: MindMeld, 251 Kearny Street # 400, San Francisco, CA 94108
This will be the first session of an ongoing NLP reading group for industry folks. Reading is not strictly required but will be necessary to contribute to the discussion. To start, we will be following the winter 2016 schedule of Stanford NLP Reading Group (http://nlp.stanford.edu/read/).
For this session in particular, we'll be reading two papers by Jacob Andreas, Marcus Rohrbach, Trevor Darrell and Dan Klein:
• Deep Compositional Question Answering with Neural Module Networks (http://arxiv.org/pdf/1511.02799v2.pdf)
• GitHub Repo (https://github.com/jacobandreas/nmn2)
• Learning to Compose Neural Networks for Question Answering (http://arxiv.org/pdf/1601.01705v1.pdf)
• OPTIONAL BUT USEFUL BACKGROUND READING: An Introduction to Formal Computational Semantics (https://prod-c2g.s3.amazonaws.com/cs224n/Fall2012/files/cl-semantics-new.pdf)
MindMeld is using advanced NLP and search techniques to help others add intelligent voice interfaces to any application, any device.
A sociolinguist by training, Katie Bauer is currently an industry data analyst who uses NLP and machine learning to explore and analyze data.
