Meetup suggested it to me. When I saw the title of the group, It made me think how happy I was this summer when we rented a circa. 1872 house on the beach in Mendocinco for a few weeks. It phad no Internet, no TV, no cell reception, no smart meter, just a rotary phone, and my family had the time of our lives! When I told most people, they thought I was insane.
I am trying... it is a lot harder than I thought! By homeschooling.... We don't watch TV, however, i have sinned, admit that my daughter is obsessed with Thomas the Train. I was so keen on Waldorf approach only, but a few Thomas presents from friends and family on her second birthday leered her and I into Thomasland. Also, I did let her watch an awful lot of Mister Rogers reruns online...which is essentially having a TV. However, I think Mr. Rogers is amazing. She has never seen a commercial, knows nothing of Fast food chains, Chucky Cheese, commercial foods (we eat organic adult food), ect. Another sin was I did take her to Disney and she had no clue who any character was except Winnie as I read her the non Disney version. I rationalized it by saying the surrealists loved Disney, even put him in their manifesto. We only listen to NPR and KPFA, college radio. She knows nothing of team sports. She does know coca-cola from my Father-in-Law but thinks it is poison, which it is.
