Wow, am I glad I found this group ;)! The commercialism and materialism that is heaped onto today's youth most definitely makes me uneasy - from the media's misguided conditioning of gender roles to society's unhealthy obsession with pop-culture. Although I try to be respectful of our society and it's nuances on a daily level, it would be extremely refreshing to spend some time with other parents or parents-to-be who share some of my opinions and also look for ways to think outside the box when it comes to this!
I am expecting my first child on June 2 (2014), so although I have not yet started parenting, I think an important way to resist the commercialization of my kid's childhood is to lead by example, always maintain an open dialogue, encourage unique and self-motivated thought/questioning, and to try and surround myself and my child with like-minded people that hold similar values.
I'm currently a student and I work mostly from home, so I am really flexible when it comes to meeting times. My husband, who shares my thoughts on this and would also love to be a part of this group, works during the week but is available on weekends.
I like a variety of activities: coffee shops and good conversation, anything nature related, museums, good food - anything, really :).
Hi! I'm Rabab and I live in Pacifica with my husband and dog! I'm originally from Norway but grew up in Oregon. I'm a student (finishing my MS in Speech Pathology) and 5 months pregnant with our first child! I'd love to meet some other moms-to-be!
