PHOTOGRAPH THE BLUE ANGELS AIR SHOW DURING FLEET WEEK IN SAN FRANCISCO ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7
Fleet Week is one of the biggest events in San Francisco and draws over a million people to view the air show put on by the Blue Angels as well as all of the other demonstrations.
The problem is that the show is super crowded on Saturday and Sunday which makes it difficult to park as well as to find a good spot from which to take pictures.
Over the years, I shot the air show from many locations and, last year, found a really good spot. I always go on Friday because the show is the same on Friday as on the weekend but the big difference is that the number of people watching the show is much smaller which makes the experience a lot more pleasant.
Date: Friday, October 7
Cost: This is a free event.
Time: Noon - the events start at 12:30 and go to 4:00 pm - the Blue Angels are the last act to perform. I always arrive early to reserve a good spot.
Location: Fort Mason Center on the end of the pier behind Building A
Parking: There is limited free parking in the lot on the road from Marina Blvd to Fort Mason. If you do not find a spot there, I suggest using the paid lot - the fee is not too bad. Do not park on the street because there is a 2 hour time limit and it is enforced.
Here is a link to images that I took at Fleet Week last year from the pier in Fort Mason:
