Rick Perry - Energy Independence in America

**Join us for a pre-speech cocktail and appetizer at 6pm at the Tonga Room in the Fairmont Hotel, adjacent to the Mark Hopkins Hotel.  We'll meet in the bar**

Rick Perry, the current Governor of Texas, will be in San Francisco to discuss how his state is leading the way for America in creating energy independence by producing crude oil and electricity in many forms, including natural gas, coal, nuclear, wind, solar, bio-fuel and hydroelectric generation. In a recent letter to President Obama, Governor Perry wrote that the current federal policies will “incapacitate – and possibly eliminate – critical sources of energy while stifling job creation and threatening American energy policy.” Governor Perry has been in public office for over two decades, including 14 years as governor. He served in the US. Air Force and is a graduate of Texas A&M University. He will discuss energy and his ideas on other political issues of the day, including his experiences as a Republican candidate on the 2012 presidential campaign trail and his view of the road ahead.

Rick Perry is realistic, down-to-earth and knows what it takes to make his state viable and competitive in this economic environment. I hope he can talk some sense [or scare some sense] into our elected officials about creating a positive energy platform, not just one that taxes its residents in order to "re-distribute" wealth.

It took Rick a few minutes to warm up, but once he did he was very personable, informative and interesting. He gave a brief speech first talking about what Texas has done to move the nation towards independence from foreign oil. And then he took questions from the audience via the moderator. The questions covered everything from current events, to fracking and illegal immigration. Very enjoyable!

I am disappointed that I won't be able to attend. I must focus on an upcoming licensing exam. I am sure it will be a fun and informative evening.

Easy to get ticket- I am really looking forward to this- wish I would have joined the commonwealth club before buying the premium ticket. Membership for some reason is cheaper for people living outside the 9 Bay Area counties- no where could I find on commonwealth web site if Sacramento County is outside the 9 Bay Area counties- does someone know if Sacramento County is not in the 9 Bay Area counties?

Hi Joe - Sacramento County unfortunately isn't one of the 9 BA counties, it extends to Solano county, Napa, Sonoma and down to Santa Cruz & Santa Clara.
