ring bells! 12/12 is the Bell Day.
Details
On the Bell Day, we remember the Valdai bell legend, the Novgorod Thing ("Veche") and Russians' age-old hope for freedom and self-governance. As a part, anyone can ring a bell and grant oneself an ultimate law effective for one year, till the next Bell Day. The whole thing is much like the New Year resolution, but of only one action item; no matter how big or small, but exactly one.
I am planning to bring a range of Russian poetry from multiple generations on the topics of resistance, freedom and responsibility; from references to Nordic/Varangian heritage and the hidden city of Kitezh ("the Russian Avalon") to examples of political satire in the Empire, the Union and the Federation.
This is a translated event, and its official language is English.
Bells will be provided, but feel free to bring your own!
