Fabric Swap, Chat & Pattern Giveaway!

It's time to so some spring cleaning and go through your stash! Bring your leftover yardage or fabric that you know doesn't really work for you but could be a beauty on someone else. But please don't bring tiny scraps - bring pieces that are at least 1/2 yard so people have enough to make something.

Before you arrive, please sort your fabric by type: cotton, wool, knits, prints, solids, etc. [and label your fabric with your name and if you have time, note the yardage and if it's 100% cotton, wool, a blend, etc.

Then if your fabric doesn't get selected, you have the option of taking it back or] [updated in bold] it'll be donated to the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse. [If you're driving, please let me know if you can help with delivering the leftovers to the Depot. Thanks!]

And here's some exciting news! Tasia, the Canadian designer behind the indie pattern company Sewaholic Patterns, will be donating her latest pattern for a giveaway! It's the Gabriola Skirt - a beautiful maxi skirt, which you can buy here.  Thank you Tasia for donating your pattern to our March meetup! And be sure to check out her Sewaholic blog. It's coming from Canada so there's an outside chance it might not arrive in time but I can always mail it to the drawing winner.

All Bay Area Sewist members get a 20% discount at Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics on meeting days! So stop by their great store (2518 Shattuck Ave.) before or after our meetup - let them know you are a Bay Area Sewist member and show them the email I'll be sending members the day before the meetup. You can show the email on your smartphone or a printout.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I wanted to share a pic of my version of the Gabriola skirt that I just finished! (This was the pattern that was given away at this meetup.) Such a great pattern! https://plus.google.com/111754036279251010992/posts/9BPnqvdGUWB

Looks great! Nice job on the skirt. I love skirts so I definitely need to get this pattern.

It was so great meeting everyone! (Thanks for organizing, Chuleenan!) FYI a few of us were chatting at lunch and thinking it would be so great to have a "fitting meetup" where you bring your muslins ect and we help each other with fit issues. Only a couple sewing machines needed (and people could even hand baste after alterations). What does everyone else think?? I could SO use help in this area!

What month/date are we thinking about? I want to get all of my tragic and unwearable muslins out of the box I hid them away in.

June - date TBD, depends on what library has available.

Had a great time today! Brought back more fabric than i wanted, but found some great pieces.
I snuck out of stone mountain since I needed to catch Bart, but did purchase some tag board with my 20% discount.
If anyone knows of other sewing/up cycle/costuming meet ups, please post on Facebook. Thanks and great seeing everyone!

Yay! That funny that you brought back more than you brought - oh the dangers of fabric swaps!

If anyone is coming from the South Bay, I'll be driving from Mountain View and willing to carpool, just let me know! (though I am going to Stone Mountain Fabrics afterward)

Super excited for this meetup! I totally want to hit up stone mountain fabrics since it'll be so close!! Nothing like swapping fabric and then...going to buy more...haha :-) Anyone else?
