Stitch Fix (https://www.stitchfix.com/) is a fashion retailer that harnesses data science & machine learning to provide a personal styling service optimized to their customers. The company seeks to match merchandise to clients using both algorithms and human stylists, and delivers a personalized package in the mail.Rich data are involved at many steps along the way -- from choosing the right inventory to carry, assigning styles & stylists to an individual, predicting growth, and testing all the processes of their business. Their data team (http://multithreaded.stitchfix.com/algorithms/) is 60 strong and growing, and according to their careers page (https://www.stitchfix.com/careers), they are looking for data scientists, including interns. ;-)

They have a great technical blog (http://multithreaded.stitchfix.com/blog/) containing many posts about machine learning and data science, so if you haven't checked it out, you should! Here is a post (http://multithreaded.stitchfix.com/blog/2015/09/22/quantifying-my-transition-from-academia-to-data-science/) by one of the speakers about her transition from academia to data science.

The first half of the meetup will feature three ongoing projects at Stitch Fix, while the second half will feature outside speakers. Stitch Fix talks will include:

• Tara Lydiard-Martin (https://fr.linkedin.com/in/taralydiardmartin) & Alex Smolyanskaya (https://www.linkedin.com/in/smoly): The use of Markov chain simulations & Bayesian regression to forecast demand within an unusual business model

• Tatsiana Maskalevich (https://dk.linkedin.com/in/tatsianamaskalevich) & Jasmine Nettiksimmons (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jnettiksimmons): Naive vs controlled approaches to measuring stylist performance

• Katherine Livins (https://www.linkedin.com/in/klivins): The role of human computation in our styling process

• One of their guest speakers is Claire Lackner (https://www.linkedin.com/in/clairelackner), of Element Analytics (http://www.elementanalytics.com/). Element Analytics works with companies to standardize their industrial process data and then use that data to predict equipment failure, forecast demand, and suggest optimizations.

• Their final guest speaker is Lindsay Pettingill (https://www.linkedin.com/in/lpettingill) from AirBnb,who will discuss logging, transparency, and empowered decision making.
