Get Your Climb On: Pinehurst Loop (Oakland/Moraga) with "Slalom Descents"

Details: 25 miles, 2000 feet (some quite steep) climb, 12-14 MPH   You should have a road bike and be a good climber for this one.

I will stop (and you will stop for me!) for up to 10 min. at the top of hills, but please print out the route map and cue sheet on the link below in case you fall behind.

Other groups will be joining us.

Meet: 9:15 AM, ready to roll 9:30 AM

Activity Fee: 2.00 (covers website and event planning fees)

This route starts on Park Blvd. goes up into the Oakland hills, down Redwood Rd. and includes the "legendary Pinhurst climb."  But it goes DOWN old Tunnel Rd. after a few rollers, so that's a plus.  Just when you think you're done, there a little parting gift:  a very short steep climb and descent to get to the finish.

What I like about this route, is that it include a straight shot and two "slalom" course descents.  And we go by the little town of Canyon, CA with a "post office stop" for snacks.

Bring: snacks, 1 bottle of lytes, 1 bottle of water, snacks, tube, helmet

Restrooms:  Use a facility before the ride.  There are two restroom stops along the way as needed.

Directions: Lake Merrit BART to Ultimate Grounds, 3 miles:

AC transit Bus #18 which stops at the cafe and all BART stops from Berkeley to 12th St:¤t_schedule=10849

Hi. I ride mainly in Marin but not east bay. Are there lots of cars on this route?

Thinking of taking my fixed gear bike for this one, the average grade on most of the climbs is reasonable enough. Do you happen to know where and what the max grade is?

Hi Ryan, Truly, the only serious grade is MAYBE 1/4 mile in the last 1/3 of the ride and I don't know the grade, but it's short enough that if you have to walk part way, it's no big deal. It's the top portion of Pinehurst. Look forward to riding with you and the others.

We will have members coming from Bike the Bay
This group used to be called Berkeley Bicycle Meetup Group, but has had attracted cyclists from a wider geographical area and our rides have been all over the region. Some rides will only be posted there so consider joining us, too!
