Downie Soft

A weekend of Downieville riding!  The plan is to do an afternoon standard (pedaling) ride on Saturday and a downhill run on Sunday.

Rocky Rest campsite #7 has been reserved for Saturday, October 6.

CAMPING COST: It's $30 per night per camp site, and each site allows for up to six people, so depending on the total number of people who come, that may be hardly any $ per person.  It's also $5 for each additional car.

SUNDAY SHUTTLING: The plan on Sunday is to do the Downieville downhill ride. We could shuttle ourselves or use a local shuttle service.  Shuttling is $20 per person.  Departure times might be 9am (and another one at 1pm for second run option). This ride is advanced and not for beginners.

BRING:  Your bike and gear, camping equipment, clothing layers, money, food.  You will be responsible for your own safety.  Please print out (or buy) your own trail map to have on hand.

FACILITIES:  The campsites are equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided.  No showers!  You must go into town to use a shower, or use the river.

LOCATION OF ROCKY REST CAMPGROUND:  Do not click the "address" above.  This is where we will meet:

GPS:[masked], [masked] (39°30'50"N, 120°58'28"W)

From Downieville, travel south on Highway 49 for about 11 miles. The campground is on the left side of the highway. If you are coming from the Bay Area or the Central Valley, you will most likely take HWY 49 north, in which case Rocky Rest campground will be on your RIGHT.

Heavy rain or snow cancels this event.

This event is also being posted with a couple other groups, so a campsite limit may be imposed.  If the limit is reached, you may be responsible for arranging your own accomodations.

The Big Boulder option was a blast, and a good workout as well.

For those who didn't hear, the plan on Sunday is to do the Downieville downhill ride (with or without the "Boulder" option) at 9am. I reserved the shuttle for those who have RSVP'ed here/Annadel site (as of Thurs., Oct. 4 at 5pm although it's my understanding that Eric and Michael are probably not coming? so I did NOT include you, just email me by Friday at noon if you will join us then so I can call the shuttle service to save you a spot: [masked], otherwise you'll have to call yourselves). Some people want to also shuttle on Saturday afternoon for some downhill action, others may want to simply do the North Yuba Trail (trail head in downtown Downieville). We may very well split into two groups depending on the final group size and interests/levels of the group members. Our carpool group plans to arrive at Rocky Rest 12pm-1pm on Saturday. We plan to ride and then hit the DV pizzeria for dinner and then head back to camp for a campfire. Bring layers!

Hi Eric, Our group is leaving from Santa Rosa but that's probably not convenient for you to leave from. I'm sure there has to be someone from the east bay going.... keep checking this site.....

I also reserved Rocky Rest campsite #8 so there should be plenty of camp spots. The adjacent campsite #7 is almost filled up with north bay mountain bikers. By the way, there will be some carpooling going on from the Bay Area.... let's stay in touch about that......
