Details

Reschedule of October 30th meeting New Topic XSockets.NET

Paul Stack of Open Table's London office, who was in San Francisco this week and was going to do a presntation on Vagrant for our regular schedule meeting on Oct 30th, was taken ill and was not able to give his presentation. He will be returning to London on the weekend and we therefore are unable to reschedule his presentation.

Magnus Thor and Uffe Björklund from - Team XSockets.NET will be in the San Jose area next week and have agree to be the presenters for a reschedule meeting. Abstract and Bio follow.

Nokia has agree to allow us to reschedue the use of their Sunnyvale facilities so the meeting location is unchanged.

Abstract:

Real-time is much more than just bi-directional communication using WebSockets and talented HTTP Hacks!

Magnus Thor and Uffe Björklund - Team XSockets.NET will give an introduction to the XSockets.NET real-time framework and go through some of the challenges that we face when developing real-time applications. During the session we will show how you build stateful, realtime-mvc-controllers and how consume those using i.e JavaScript, C#. WebRTC is a new player in the "real-time-game", what opportunities will it bring to real-time web-applications? We will show how XSockets.NET leverage's this new powerful JavaScript API’s – PeerConnections, MediaStreams and DataChannels.

"Real-time is much more than just bi-directional communication using WebSockets API’s and talented HTTP Hacks. We will be sharing some ideas in what i think will be the next big-thing!

I´m a previous sports-freak that evolved into a pear shaped geek. I have been a developer since 2000 and I have always been curious about new stuff. I actually think that curiosity combined with playfulness is the most important parts when it comes to becoming skilled in your profession. I work mainly within .NET (C#) and HTML5 (mostly JavaScript) as both a consultant and as a teacher. I am the founder of CodePlanner, an opensource (https://github.com/codeplanner/CodePlanner) nuget package that generates code CodePlanner´s purpose is not to generate the perfect code, it´s about creating readable code that you can improve and re-generate... Since 2010 I am the lead architect (and co-founder) of XSockets.NET. I have mostly been on stage when teaching.. but also on small code camps around Northern Europe. When it comes to “real” talks I did one i New York (late 2012) on “Mobile Monday”, and another one at DevSum13 in Stockholm Sweden this year. Lots of fun on both occasions, and I am eager to do more talks about stuff I find interesting! I’m a Swedish geek named Magnus Thor, I have been doing Web-development since since 1996 and i do it with a great portion of passion! The latest 3-4 years i have been focusing on WebSockets and other real-time technologies i general. Back in 2010 i founded the XSockets.NET Realtime-framework ( available on Nuget, as a Service on Azure and more). In addition to my work with XSockets.NET i do loads of HTML5 and Web-Dev on the .NET platform.
