Node Night
Details
Welcome to BayNode Node Night! This is a recurring event held at Hacker Dojo in Mountain View on the first Tuesday of each month.
AGENDA
6:30-7:00 Dockerizing Node Development - Tony Pujals (https://twitter.com/subfuzion), Appcelerator
7:00-8:00 To Err is Human - Alex Liu (https://twitter.com/stinkydofu), Netflix
Dockerizing Node Development
Continuing the theme of Microservices with Node and Docker from the last meetup (https://www.meetup.com/BayNode/events/222654237/), this talk will demonstrate how you can enhance your developer workflow with Babel ES6/7 transpilation and Node Inspector debugging support for your Docker container. We'll use a Yeoman generator to scaffold our dockerized project.
To Err is Human
Building complex async applications is really hard. Whether you use callbacks, Promises, or EventEmitters, Error objects should have a place in your utility belt. They are indispensable when it comes to managing work flows in a highly asynchronous environment.
This talk covers patterns for using JavaScript Error (with a capital E) objects to build resilient applications, and introduce some modules that can be used to build errors with an elegant history of stack traces even through multiple asynchronous operations. Try/catch, callbacks, and other error handling mechanisms will be examined, revealing some potential deficiencies in the JavaScript language for dealing with errors.
ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Tony Pujals is fanatical about Node.js, Docker, APIs, microservices and scalable cloud architecture. He's deeply involved in the community as a member of the Node Foundation evangelism working group and co-founder of BayNode, now the third largest Node meetup in the world with ~2,100 members. He's the Director of Cloud Engineering at Appcelerator, where he's focused on improving the process of building, deploying, orchestrating, and monitoring highly available containerized microservices.
Alex Liu is a front end engineer that is passionate about building great user experiences on the open web stack. While he has spent his entire career building JavaScript applications, he is still continually surprised by all the new and creative ways in which the community leverages JavaScript. Alex is currently an engineer on the UI Platform team at Netflix, driving and shaping the evolution of the Node.js platform across the company.
