We will meet at 9:30 am and depart at 9:45 am
Our plan is to skate south from the South Beach parking lot along the Ft. Lauderdale beach to the Harbor Isles neighborhood, skate the smooth streets in the neighborhood and return. The skate will take a little more than an hour after which we will enjoy brunch at a local restaurant. This is a "C" level skate. Please be sure to bring water.
We have 20 admission tickets to see El Galeón a 170 foot, 495 ton, authentic wooden replica of a galleon that was part of Spain's West Indies fleet. The Viva Florida 500 Voyage is one of the events of Florida's 500th anniversary commemoration. The ship will be docked at Bahia Mar Marina which is right across the street from the starting point of our skate. VISIT FLORIDA is helping coordinate the tour along with Fundación Nao Victoria who are sailing the ships from Spain via Puerto Rico- following a similar path to that taken 500 years ago.
The first 20 RSVP's will get free admission tickets to the event.
Parking in the South Beach lot is $1.75 an hour. We will meet at the southwest corner of the parking lot. Please note that the lot fills up fast during the weekend. There is alternative parking that is close by to the skate (maybe ¾ mile). If you park elsewhere, please allow additional time to get to our meeting point.
I-95 to Sunrise Blvd (SR838). Follow Sunrise east to end at A1A, turn right and continue south on A1A. After about one mile the road divides, continue south until the road joins again and at that point turn left, then right into the South Beach parking lot and go to the south end of the lot.
